Scarred yet Favored

My life story is unique in that it is my story. It tells the tale of where I’ve been, who I used to be, and how I became the person that I am today. However, my story is not unique in and of itself because many young men have lived or are currently living a similar life to what mine once was. I made a terrible decision as a sixteen-year-old kid that sent me to prison for 30 years to Life. Young, impulsive, and impressionable, I chose the wrong path. I committed murder in prison, received another Life sentence, joined a gang, spent 10 years in super-max facilities, all while thinking I was winning, I was not. Thirteen years into my sentence, I truly realized the consequences of my decisions, and thanks be to God, I got out of the gang life and found a different path.
