Sonder Alpha EX 700c Wheelset

Sonder Alphas EX are our touring wheelset. And while they’re built specifically for carrying weight, load up for multi-day trips on the road and trail. Lightweight eyeletted rims mean they spin up to speed quickly while super-smooth bearings keeping you rolling. They’re the wheels we choose when we want to go far, and in comfort. Road, gravel, loaded for multi-day racing, these wheels take the hits!

Our alpha hubs are built to last, a durable 4 pawl setup with a 30 tooth ratchet ring gives 12 degrees between each engagement. We’ve used a 4-pawl freehub for instant acceleration and maximum pedalling efficiency.  the wheels respond the minute you put the hammer down and save wasted watts.

Made from a premium KLM41 (6061) alloy, we’ve been able to maximise rim strength and stiffness for a lower weight. Rim eyelets help to take the load and spread the forces around the rim. They’re also welded and pre-taped for a tubeless-ready set up to save more weight and reduce rolling resistance.

21mm wide rims are perfectly suited for 30-50mm tyres, which means better traction, more comfort, greater control and the ability to run a lower tyre pressure. We’ve also used Sapim Laser double butted spokes to reduce weight and increase stiffness.

We lace, build and finish all our wheels in our Nottingham factory, with each one getting a full quality control inspection. We’ve brought the build process in house from overseas to enable us to produce something truly special. We can oversee the whole construction of our wheels and keep quality consistent, production efficient and reduce the impact on the planet by not shipping boxes of wheels around the world.
